How
do I know what my
deck will look like?
We come to your home
and enter the specifics
of your deck into
our state of the art
3-D interactive computer
design program. You
will be able to see
exactly what your
deck is going to look
like.

you adhere to appropriate
zoning codes and issues?

and licensed in the
State of Georgia.

you want it. If there

it, we will fix them

Do
the decking boards
need to be spaced
apart or placed tight
together during installation?
The answer to that
depends on the type
of material being
used for the decking
surface. All of the
composite decking
materials require
a small gap between
the boards side to
side and end to end.
These materials expand
and contract based
upon the outside temperature
and require space
for that movement.
On the other hand,
when installing pressure
treated wood, it is
best to install the
boards tight together.
Unless kiln dried
after treatment, these
boards are usually
still wet from the
pressure treatment
process and have swelled
due to the high moisture
content. After several
weeks, the wood dries
and actually shrinks
creating a small gap
between the boards.
What
kind of maintenance
is required for pressure
treated lumber?
It is best to seal
the wood with a penetrating
water sealer as soon
as the wood is dry.
This could take anywhere
between 2 weeks and
2 months depending
on the climate and
time of year. The
pressure treatment
process is chemically
injected to resist
rot, decay and termite
infestation. The sealer
and /or stain protect
the wood against the
damaging effects of
water and UV sun exposure
such as cracking,
splitting and warping.
Washing and resealing
the deck surface every
1 - 2 years will maintain
a beautiful deck for
a long time.
Have
the building codes
changed in recent
years in regard to
the spacing of the
pickets in the railings?
Yes they have. The
building code now
requires that the
pickets be spaced
so that a 4 inch sphere
can not pass between
any opening in the
railing. The railings
must also be 36"
high for a residential
deck located more
than 30 inches above
the ground. A deck
surface less than
30 inches above the
ground does not require
a handrail at all.
What
other type of projects
does DeckWright build
besides decks?
We offer a variety
of services and deck
enhancements that
include screen porches,
privacy screens, pool
decks, custom railings,
Amish gazebos, planters,
built-in benches,
walkways, ramps, pool
decks and any other
wood built outdoor
project you may have.
We specialize in creative
solutions.
Are
you able to do more
than outdoor projects?
Through our sister
company, The
Building Firm,
we are able to offer
compete remodeling
and construction services.
Like DeckWright, The
Building Firm is operated
by a Licensed Architect,
so a very similar
process is used for
design and build.
